Meta sells more AI by bundling the apps people already use

The Information flagged Meta’s new subscription tiers; the company’s announcement makes the strategy clearer. AI sits inside a bundle spanning Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Individual bundles start at $7.99 a month, with a $19.99 Premium tier. They combine app-specific perks with higher allowances for eligible AI features, including image and video generation. Creator and business plans add verification, support, publishing tools and greater access to Meta Business Agent.

The package mixes several different reasons to pay. Someone might want more generation capacity, someone else impersonation protection, and a small business help handling customer conversations. Meta can sell them through accounts and habits those users already have.

That creates a different commercial test from persuading someone to buy a standalone chatbot subscription. The bundle only needs its combined benefits to justify the price. It also makes it harder to infer demand for AI alone from subscription uptake.

Reuters reports 15 million subscriptions and trials during the phased introduction. That is not a count of paying subscribers. Basic app functions and basic Meta AI remain free, and individual app subscriptions remain available.

Availability and included benefits still depend on account and location, according to Meta’s help page. The plan names matter less than the actual features presented at signup.
