Nvidia reportedly weighs equity and credit support for SB Energy
Nvidia was discussing an investment of up to $3 billion in SB Energy tied to an Ohio data-center project serving OpenAI, Reuters reported, citing The Information. The talks also involved a substantially larger credit-support arrangement. Neither was established as a completed cash investment.
A supplier can earn revenue from a project’s equipment purchases while also taking financial risk to help that project proceed. Equity and credit guarantees create different obligations even when they support the same campus.
The final guarantee terms would determine when that contingent exposure becomes a payment—for example after a construction delay or a customer’s inability to meet its commitments.
