Nvidia promises an open Hugging Face under its ownership

Nvidia announced an agreement to acquire Hugging Face for about $12.93 billion on September 3. It said the platform would remain open to competing models, clouds and accelerators, without requiring Nvidia hardware. The announcement does not establish that closing conditions have been completed.

Hugging Face influences how developers discover, evaluate and deploy models, in addition to hosting their files. Its neutrality will therefore depend on practical support for alternatives: whether competing hardware and clouds remain straightforward to use, and whether discovery and evaluation continue serving the broader community.
