ChatGPT use is spreading across ages, countries and tasks
Multimedia accounts for 7.8% of ChatGPT messages globally, exceeding one in ten in Brazil and Colombia. Peru, Uruguay and Costa Rica showed particularly large improvements in per-capita usage rank between the first and second quarters. People over 35 gained message share in nearly every country.
Work-related messages were more than twice as likely as non-work messages to concern producing an output or completing a task. Outside work, information-seeking remained the largest category.
The v2.0 methodology describes monthly samples of 300,000 consumer messages from July 2024 through June 2026. It covers accounts declaring an age of at least 18, excludes deleted accounts and training opt-outs, and omits Codex and enterprise messages. Automated classifications and differential-privacy protection introduce uncertainty, especially in small slices.
These are patterns in observed messages. They do not measure completed tasks, and heavier users contribute more activity. A change in a country’s rank can also reflect faster growth elsewhere. The downloadable data and definitions are available under CC BY 4.0.
